noor: network member criteria
Network members of Noor must fulfill the following criteria:
- Members must be committed to our core principles and affirm agreement to them in writing;
- Members must support the initiative’s mission and be aligned with its goals;
- Network members may be organizations or individuals. The former may include CSOs and movement groups, collectives, alliances or coalitions. Member groups do not need to be formally registered;
- Members may work at the grassroots, local, national, regional or transnational levels, with priority to those most impacted by the issues being addressed, and those working at the national or local level;
- Network member organizations must not be intended to serve the interests of any commercial or profit-making organization, and must have independence from government bodies;
- Members must be committed to contributing to the collective work of the initiative;
- Balance in terms of geographical representation amongst network members must be prioritized, so as to share engagement and perspectives from the global South and global North;
- Network members must have substantive experience with how fundamentalist, fascist, authoritarian, far right and/or anti-rights movements and actors undermine social justice and human rights;
- Members must be feminist, i.e. be engaged in struggle against sexist oppression, promoting women, girls and gender diverse peoples’ human rights as a primary mission, and led by the people they aim to serve;
- Network members shall be engaged in work directed towards:
- Gender justice and women’s rights, including sexual rights and reproductive justice;
- Challenging VAW and GBV, including in the name of culture and/or religion;
- Rights and non-discrimination on the basis of race, caste, religion or belief, ethnic background, disability, gender identity or expression, and/or sexual orientation;
- Challenging authoritarianism, fascism, fundamentalisms, the far right;
- Deepening democracy;
- Open borders and migrant justice;
- Anti-imperialism;
- Securing economic rights and justice;
- Demilitarization, decriminalization or challenging the abuse of security laws and policies ; and/or
- Building feminist transformative alternatives
Network members may join by a) invitation; or b) may apply for membership.
Please note that applications for membership will be reviewed to ensure no conflicts of interest, ethics or values.
