Across regions, the far right have entrenched their power in recent years, with more than 75% of the world’s population living in political systems characterized by authoritarianism, neo-fascism, or rising de-democratization. Rising inflation, poverty and economic inequality are fertile ground for far right narratives to thrive, often through electoral processes that channel discontent from decades-long negative impacts of neoliberal policies, racism, colonialism and patriarchy.
In this session organized by Noor at CSW68 this year, we shared findings from Noor’s upcoming reports on key anti-rights trends in Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) and South and Southeast Asia (SSEA). We offered the space to discuss these trends in other regions and intersected the analysis with wider anti-gender, anti-rights movements that are threatening hard won rights across the board.
